 Autobahn

Just like European streets, the autobahn has multiple lanes of traffic in each direction which are seperated by a central barrier. The first road of this kind was completed in 1931, the road was not called the autobahn at first, but Kraftfahrtstrasse, meaning, automobile road. The idea was to have a street with no crossings or speed limits and was only to be used by cars and motorcycles, not pedestrians or the common horse drawn carts.

The Autobahn can easily and quickly take you to places like Hamburg , Berlin, and even German Schools. Or it could transport you to surrounding countries such as Denmark, Poland, Czech RepublicAustria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, and Belguim

Speed limits

 Speed limits

A hard limit is imposed on some vehicles:

60 km/h
  • Buses carrying standing passengers (except in Switzerland)
  • Motorcycles pulling trailers (in Switzerland: 80 km/h)
80 km/h
  • Vehicles with a gross weight rating (GWR) exceeding 3.5 t (except passenger cars)
  • Passenger cars and trucks with trailers
  • Buses or Coaches (in Switzerland: 120 km/h)
100 km/h
  • Vehicles with a gross weight rating (GWR) not exceeding 3.5 t pulling trailers certified for 100 km/h
  • Buses or Coaches certified for 100 km/h not pulling trailers

Just last week Dirk Nowitzki saw David Hasselhoff driving the legendary Kit from Nightrider on the autobahn at unbelievable speeds.

Even though German kids are aloud to drink at such a young age, they're still very cautious while driving, making the autobahn a safer place to drive. (Click here for more on the Autobahn accident record).

All along the Autobahn are series of rest stops where you can dine at restraunts and try some delicous German Foods , or, you can just enjoy the scenery, and look at Famous and Historical sites
