Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is held in Berlin the capital of Germany.

What Is It,

     The Oktoberfest is a 16 day festival held each year in Munich, Bavaria, and Germany during late September and early October. It is one of the most famous events in the city and the world's largest fair with over six million people attending every year.

Old Times,

     In the year 1813, the Oktoberfest was called off because Bavaria was involved in the Napoleonic war.In 1816, carnival booths appeared. The main prizes were silver, porcelain, and jewelry. in 1819 the Town fathers of Munich took over festival management. they said we should have this awsome festival every year without ever skipping it.

Modern Oktoberfest,

     Since 1950 there has been a traditional festival opening. A twelve gun salute and they tap the first keg of Oktoberfest beer at 12:00 by the current Mayor of Munich. As they tap it the ayor yells "O'zapft is!" which means it is tapped in German dialect. The first mayor to tap the keg was Thomas Wimmer. By 1960, the Oktoberfest had turned into an enormous world-famous festival. To keep the Oktoberfest, and especially the beer tents, friendly for older people and families, the concept of the "quiet Oktoberfest" was developed in 2005, Until 6:00 PM, the tents only play quiet music, for example traditional wind music. after that pop music is played and has lead to more violence.

The Oktoberfest Tents, There are roughly 28-30 tents at Oktoberfest all offering a wide variety of foods, entertainment and beer. Each tent has a speciality and serves up their own special foods or brand of entertainment. Many of them take reservations in advance via phone, fax, mail or Internet.
